In our analyzes, we observed a significant difference in the number of cases reported on Sundays and Mondays, compared to the rest of the week, in all Brazilian states. To accommodate this effect, a specific parameter has been included for each of these days of the week, which allows the estimated average curve (orange line) to assume different values during those days.
The team of our project "CovidLP" signed a partnership with the Municipal Health Department of Montes Claros, a city in the northern region of the state of Minas Gerais.
As a product of this partnership, our team will provide the secretariat with weekly reports based on the analysis of data reported by the municipality for Covid-19.
We live today in a scenario of great uncertainty. When will the number of coronavirus cases peak in the country? What will the future look like in the post-pandemic world? And, above all, when will that moment come?
Statistics is a science that can help us deal with these issues and, to discuss these and other topics related to the pandemic, the UFRJ Science and Culture Forum invited Dani Gamerman to be the first interviewee in the series “Science in the right dose” .
Dani Gamerman was a professor at UFRJ between 1996 and 2019. Today he works as a visiting professor at UFMG, where he coordinates the project “Short and long term forecast for COVID-19”.
Over the past weekend, the Brazilian Ministry of Health (MH) granted some interviews to announce changes to its Covid19 portal.
In the last interview, which took place on Monday (June 8th, 2020), their spokespersons made it clear that the update would also include an exchange of the case and death counts.
Instead of disclosing cases and deaths notified each day, the Ministry of Health will disclose cases and deaths that occurred each day.
Due to delays in notification, these two definitions differ substantially.
Despite this, the definition of new cases and deaths has not changed in the portal so far.
In view of this uncertainty as to the real meaning of what is being disclosed, we decided not to present the current data and predictions based on them until the matter is clarified and, more importantly, until the previous standard is recovered precisely.
